Clown Soapfish / Grouper

The Clown Soapfish ( Pogonoperca punctata ) is a hardy aquarium fish makes an interesting display. It is a ravenous predator that will even eat poisonous fish. While only one should be kept per aquarium, they can be housed with other groupers and even other soapfish species. However, be sure that any tankmates, including related species, are too large for them to swallow whole. It is important to note that soapfish get their name from a defensive secretion that they will use when harassed or in danger. This "soapy" secretion can be deadly to a contained system if released by the fish. They don't typically use this defense but if you see your soapfish being constantly haressed by a more aggressive tankmate, beware.
